What a beautiful town, and Springer, too

I've been haning out in Evanston, Ill., this week at a Readership Leadership conference, hoping to find the path to the Promise Land (i.e. more readers to our Web, blogs and newspaper).

It's been a great experience with a lot of interesting information, the kind of forward thinking we need in the newspaper/media business (and in all business, actually).

It's been a thrill to sit with other professionals and learn from others in the field, from publishers to editors to writers.

Northwestern University also is a wonderful campus. The views of Lake Michigan are awesome early morning walks along the lake shore have been a lot of fun (and a bit chilly today).

We also had a star sighting Tuesday night, if you call talk show ring master Jerry Springer a star. Ashley Hinson of KCRG first spotted Springer in and asked for a photo (see her blog at KCRG.com). Jerry was very cordial and friendly.

Back to sports soon, but look for something different in the months ahead. That's why I'm here.
