Pierre Pierce : I Was Not Right at the Time

Pierre Pierce's legacy in Iowa is and always will be a bad one. But in the story by Carol Slezak of the Chicago Sun-Times that I've linked below, at least Pierce is blaming no one but himself for his two sexual assault charges while he was on the University of Iowa men's basketball team. True rehabilitation has to start with that.

But Pierce's spiritual guide, youth minister Albert L. White of One Lord One Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, says the university bears some responsibility for Pierce's second sexual assault.

'If the first (assualt) had been taken care of properly, the second wouldn't have happened. The college has just as much of the blame. They gave him a slap on the wrist when he deserved a harsher penalty. People protested when he was allowed to come back (to the team) after the first incident, and they should have protested.''

Unfortunately, we'll never know if White's logic is spot-on or not. But you can't help but wonder ...

While I agree that the University/Alford was should have done more, and should have kicked him off of the team. Blaming anyone but Pierce for his actions is absolutely rediculous. He and he alone bares the responsibilities for his actions. Frankly, the Iowa should have never been forced to deal with the first incident. Pierre had to know it was wrong, and did it anyway. I for being accountable for your actions, not blaming everyone around you for not stopping you. Please!

I can solve the puzzle. Mr. White, is dead wong.

I noticed Mr. White didn't name Pierre's parents, or immediate family, or the local youth counselor.

Their youth is when your supposed to learn that raping anyone, is Against the law and punishable thereby, as well as Completely Immoral. Are we to believe this message was never shared with Mr. Pierce? Is it possible, that no where in his childhood, was a single individual that said Hey Pierre, do not rape anyone, cause its against the law as well as American moral(and is also culturally taboo some would argue) codes. If that is true, then the U of I should take no blame in this quandary as it is also assumed these things are covered prior to matriculating to the higher levels of education.

I do feel the University should scrutinize potential recruits better, but from what Mr. White would tell us all, Kobe is a sweet guy and should be added to any team looking for a good point gaurd that can max 50 points a game. . . I mean Pierre.

I hope the riddle posed by Mr. Hlas has now been fully answered. No more sleepless nights. Pierre is gone, that guy that hired him is gone, the guy that hired the guy that hired him, is gone. I believe the president that hired the guy that hired the guy that hired the guy. . . is gone. SO let's put the whole thing behind us and concentrate ion the future. GO HAWKS!!!
