Hmmm....you recommend taking out of town guests out of Cedar Rapids to the Amanas (but out of town Iowa City guests to the Ped Mall?).
How about the Czech and Slovak Museum? It's actually IN Cedar Rapids.

You can find brats, beer, accordians and lederhosen elsewhere (not saying that I've looked) (OK...I haven't looked on weekdays) in the USA...but the National Czech and Slovak Museum is far more unique nationaly and internationaly as the O'Reilly Potato Museum is to O'Reilly PEI. (That's north of the USA, for those in Miami-Dade).
If you MUST take folks out of town, I'd run them out to Jones and Jackson counties for a look at the National Motorcyle Museum in Anamosa, The Daly Creek Winery, The Maquoketa Caves, and lunch/dinner at either The Hale Tap or Bluff Lake. Of course you have to go through Grant Wood's Stone City on the route. Secondary on that list I'd add the Anamosa State Penitentiary Museaum (no joke).

The Amanas are nice. If you're into stereotypical touristy stuff. Maybe my hair isn't blue enough for the Amana's.
